Licenses

  • A valid Georgia hunting license covers you on a licensed shooting preserve.
  • Don't otherwise hunt? Georgia sells a 2-year or lifetime shooting preserve license covering pen-raised birds — resident and non-resident.
  • Buy online through Go Outdoors Georgia before you drive up.
  • Preserve season for pen-raised quail runs October 1 – March 31.

Guns & Shells

  • 20 or 28 gauge is plenty of gun. A 12 works fine if that's what you shoot well.
  • #7½ or #8 loads; improved cylinder or modified chokes.
  • Shells are not included — bring two or three boxes per hunter for a full day.
  • Eye and ear protection are required. A blaze orange hat or vest is strongly encouraged.

What to Wear

  • Brush pants or chaps — there are briars, and they win.
  • Broken-in boots you can walk uneven ground in.
  • Layers. Georgia ridges are cold at 8 am and warm by noon.
  • No cooler needed — your birds go home in a DanMar cooler.

Guests & Kids

  • Non-shooting guests are welcome to ride along the whole day — add lunch and they're set.
  • Young hunters are welcome with a parent or guardian. Tell us their age and experience when you book.
  • First time with a shotgun? Start on the 5-stand. We'll build the day around it.

Booking

  • A 50% non-refundable deposit reserves your date.
  • Two hunter minimum, four hunter maximum per party.
  • Weather that genuinely won't allow a hunt gets rescheduled.
  • Book early for holiday weeks and late season — those go first.

Questions

Before you call.

The things people ask us most, answered plainly.

How many people can hunt?
Two hunters minimum, four hunters maximum per party. Non-shooting guests can ride along in addition to that. If you have a bigger group, call us — we can look at a tower shoot or a multi-day arrangement.
Do I need a hunting license?
Yes. A current Georgia hunting license works. If you don't otherwise hunt, Georgia offers a shooting preserve license (2-year or lifetime, resident or non-resident) that covers pen-raised birds on licensed preserves. Buy either one online at Go Outdoors Georgia before you come.
When is the season?
Pen-raised quail may be hunted on licensed Georgia shooting preserves from October 1 through March 31. Early season and the holiday weeks book first.
Are shells included?
No — bring your own. Two to three boxes per hunter for a full day is a safe number. 20 or 28 gauge, #7½ or #8.
What happens to the birds?
Bird processing is included in the hunt price. Your birds are cleaned, bagged and iced before you leave — and they go home in a DanMar cooler, so there's nothing you need to bring for them.
Can I bring my own dog?
Sometimes — it depends on the dog, the day and the party. Give us a call well before your date and let's talk about it.
Where should we stay?
We have a three-bedroom, three-bath lodge on the property, and guests do stay in it by arrangement — it isn't part of a standard hunt day, but for groups and anyone who'd rather not drive home in the dark we can usually open it up. Ask when you book. Otherwise Rome, Georgia is about twenty minutes from the gate and has the closest hotels and restaurants, and Chattanooga is an hour north if you want to make a weekend of it.
Can we shoot clays without hunting?
Give us a call. Fifty rounds on the 5-stand, and we can usually work a clays-only afternoon into the schedule outside of peak hunt days.
What if the weather turns?
We hunt in cold and we hunt in drizzle — the dogs often work better in it. If conditions genuinely won't allow a safe hunt, we'll move you to an alternative date.
How do I hold a date?
A 50% non-refundable deposit reserves it. Send us the request from the booking page or call, and we'll confirm availability and take the deposit from there.
